What are some daily habits that are important you? Recently, about two months ago I decided to quit my gym membership and bought an elliptical machine. I got a good deal on a Nordic Track and as many retail companies do, I get a yearly subscription of iFit where they have various trainers in locations worldwide coach and motivate for the workout. This has become a new daily habit for me.
When I was going to the gym, I was working out two, maybe three times per week. Two of those days I would use the elliptical machine at the gym. Each time I would be on the machine for 20 minutes as that was enough time to burn 100 calories.
With my elliptical machine one room away instead of several miles away it has been incredibly motivating to not only workout on the machine for more than two times per week but with a coach I that 20 minutes I did at the gym is up to 35 minutes. This has become a new habit for me!
One of the workouts I did recently was in Utah which has various trails climbing quite a bit of elevation. The trainer said the quote “what you do every day is much more important than what you do every once in a while.” I thought about this knowing this could very well be a good topic to cover.
This reminded me of a book called The Five Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. He explained how top CEO’s can predict a person’s likelihood for success by looking at a person’s daily habits. A person who works out three to four times per week, they will be fit. More so however long this habit has been going on for. The other part of the statement about being “more important than what you do every once in a while,” is true.
If a person decides to work out at a gym say once every two weeks or even once a week is getting a benefit, but they are not building the part their “resilience” or “endurance” muscle. Obstacles in life blocking a goal are unavoidable as something will always seem more important than meeting your goal.
Doing something that is a challenge such as working out more consistently, running more or reading a large book is going to take discipline. That discipline is built by knowing some type of obstacle will always present itself and instead of turning away from the obstacle, do what needs to be done to get through the obstacle and get to your goal.
What is a new goal that you have been trying to meet?
